Why Imo First Lady Squandered Millions To Host Rally For Tinubu

By Onwuasoanya FCC Jones

Few weeks ago, I wrote that my younger Ideato sister, Her Excellency Barrister Chioma Uzodimma will not vote for Alhaji Bola Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria. I argued that she is such a fantastic and forward thinking and humane lady who wouldn’t wish Nigeria a terrible leader like Tinubu as its next President. For that writeup, some of my governor’s thugs descended on me. Those top rankers in the 3R administration who called me on phone told me that the governor doesn’t want his wife being dragged into partisan politics. That the First Lady’s concentration is fully on her humanitarian engagements and ensuring that the home front is peaceful and comfortable for the Imo Number One citizen. I was not persuaded by that argument, but like I do in such circumstances, I left it to time, knowing that it wouldn’t be long before those who advanced that argument are proven wrong.

Just few days ago, probably, as part of efforts to prove her unflinching support for the sickly, desperate and self-confessed power mongering bat, my governor’s wife mobilised thousands of women into the streets of Owerri, decorating them in different attires and equipping them with banners of infamy, to demonstrate support for the Jagaban Borgu, or so it seems. This rally couldn’t have gulped anything less than 500 Million Naira. Where this money came from will remain a subject of debate. But we all know that my governor’s wife and my dearest kid sister has never worked anywhere. Her only job has been as a wife to a Senator of the Federal Republic and now as wife to a governor. So, if one assumes that the money used for that face saving rally was taken from public pocket, he might not be absolutely wrong.
No one would kick against individuals or political groups organising rallies for their preferred political candidates, but it won’t be a very good thing if the monies used to fund such rallies came from public purse.

The governor’s wife might have intended to show Tinubu, who is said to be jittery over the massive decline of his chances in the election, that Southeast women stand with him. But I know that the Jagaban Borgu is too smart to be taken by that.
I learnt that Tinubu doesn’t quite trust that my governor is fully bought to his candidacy, hence, the extra efforts being put in by Onwa Oyoko to try to convince him about his unalloyed support for him. But, wouldn’t it better to keep my dear sister out of such a tainted project? If my sister wants to get fully involved in politics, there are better ways to launch her entry into the game than through a very unpopular project as rooting for a man who has no regard for the people.
